JSON Formatter

Format, minify and validate JSON, with a clear message and the position when something is wrong.

1 min read

Runs in your browser — your text and files never leave your device.

The error message and the position in it come from your own browser’s JSON parser, so they match what your code will see.

Paste JSON to indent it for reading, strip it down for sending, or check whether it is valid at all. Errors come with the position your browser reported.

How to use it

  1. Paste your JSON into the first box.
  2. Choose Format, Minify or Validate.
  3. Copy the result from the second box.

Good to know

  • Comments and trailing commas are not part of JSON, so they are reported as errors.
  • Very large files are limited by your browser’s memory rather than by this page.

Frequently asked questions

Does the formatter fix invalid JSON?

No. It reports what is wrong and where, but it will not guess at a repair — silently changing data would be worse than an error.

Is my JSON sent to a server?

No. Parsing and formatting happen in your browser.
